Year 2021 Reflection - What's next in 2022?
- 3 minutes read - 478 wordsAs I reflect on the past year 2021, I have to say that I am very thankful for all the nice and passionate people I met and opportunities I had to make connections – most virtually, but quite a few also in person. It is still a tough time for everyone to be in, but the most important thing is to stay positive and optimistic about the future.
As many of my close friends and connections on various social channels know, 2021 has also been a year of change for me personally. After a remarkably interesting and thriving time at New Relic where I met the most interesting people, I decided that it is time for me to focus on something I have been passionate about for all my professional career. And that is software! I wanted to get closer to where my heart and passion is.
For this reason, I left New Relic to start a new role at commercetools where I also worked in a pre-sale capacity. For those few, who may not have heard about commercetools, these folks are on a great mission to conquer the (e-)commerce space by storm. They offer a portfolio of products for a reimagined commerce-experience. The company is amazing and the products they offer are outstanding (if you have not heard about MACH alliance, you should check this out). Unfortunately, for me personally, the position was not a hundred percent aligned with what I wanted to focus on.
I had a lot of interesting discussions with a breadth of amazing people and organizations. I am truly thankful and feel honored to be considered. However, there are a couple reasons why I decided to join Snyk (official company website https://snyk.io/) in 2022 as my next career opportunity:
-
Hypergrowth: Snyk is in a situation where the company is still very agile, but also growing amazingly fast. This is an environment where I feel extremely comfortable and can be my true authentic self.
-
Developer First: like performance analysis (i.e., APM) at New Relic, another aspect of the software development life cycle (SDLC) is the security and vulnerability aspect. From my developer background both these aspects are so important and should be the responsibility of every software developer (i.e., shift-left in the DevSecOps notion). This experience adds to my software craftsmanship knowledge and experience.
-
Culture: from all the interactions I had so far, I am hugely impressed by Snyk’s culture, and the way people are treated.
-
Boston: Snyk’s headquarter is located in my beloved city of Boston/MA. If you know me, then you most probably also know that I am a huge fan of this city. I spent some time there during my years of study and fell in love with this wicked awesome city.
I am thrilled to have joined Snyk as a Principal Solutions Engineer.
